24-Hour Holter Monitoring

24-Hour Holter Monitoring
24 hour holter monitoring or around the clock recording of your pets heart rhythm may be suggested to better define the heart rhythm problem. The ECG records about 2 minutes whereas the holter records 24 hrs of heart beats. Comfortable spandex vests are used to provide comfort to your dog during the procedure. Your dog will be sent home with the monitor on and you will need to keep a diary of your pets activity. Monitors are removed the following day and scanned for abnormalities. A report of the findings from the holter study along with treatment recommendations will be faxed to your primary care vet.

MVCS offers the following holter services:

24 hr - Holter Monitor with scan & interpretation
24 hr - Holter Monitor with scan & interpretation
For those who do NOT own their own holter, but would like to holter their dog, MVCS has holter monitors available for use. The holters and all of the supplies can either be mailed to you OR you may come into the office and have one of our technicians put the holter on for you. Should you elect to have it mailed, we have detailed step-by-step directions with photographs for putting on the holter properly. Your dog will also wear a holter vest, made with lycra material that moves with the dog and allows for minimal taping. Shaving is required to ensure proper contact for the leads.

Scan, Interpretation, and OFA Form
For those who own their own tapes or digital Alba monitors, you may send us a tape or file with a 24 Hour holter form and diary. To email the digital holter file, you upload the file to dropsend or other large file share type program.

Tapes should be mailed to 305 Suffield St, Agawam MA 01001
Digital files sent to medrec@massvetcardiology.com

Turn around time is approximately 2 weeks from when we receive your tape. You will receive a mailed report if the holter is normal and a follow-up phone call if the results are abnormal.
Cost: $90

Holter Interpretation Only
For those who own their own holter and prefer to submit them for a scan elsewhere, we offer the option of an interpretation only. Please be sure to request a "full disclosure" from the scan service.

Please note that, while we are can do so, it is not ideal as the cardiologist does not have the means to request additional strips beyond what is included in the scan we receive.
Cost: $50
